Welcome! I am Shari Chryss Alfred, a 22 year old senior Communication student at the University’s St. Thomas. Outgoing, dedicated and talented are some of the words that I would use to describe me. Singing, dancing, writing, and pageantry are few of the many things I that I enjoy. In my spare time, I take pride in being a member of various clubs and organizations on campus and in the community ranging from the Student Government Association where I have served on the executive boards, to Sisters With Purpose a women empowerment organization on campus, the UVI Bucs Cheerleading Squad and the St. John Festival Organization Pageant Committee. It is my understanding that true success is the result of continuous failure, which is why I live by the motto, “Good, better, best, never let it rest; until your good becomes your better, and your better becomes your best.”

Kenya Emanuel, News Reporter

Kenya BioMy name is Kenya Emanuel and since my first name means artist, I try to emanate that name every day. I liked making stuff with my hands and working with mahogany. Poetry, writing, singing, farming are some of the things I do. I love music such as R&B, reggae, dance hall, and pop music. My major at UVI is elementary education and I plan to teach in a school when I am finished. I will use my skills to create interesting news articles.

Born on April 17, 1994, Augustus Laurencin Jr. is a sophomore majoring in Communications at the University of the Virgin Islands.  He is also enrolled in the Senior ROTC program and has aspirations to graduate as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.  A career path that Augustus would like to explore includes working as a Public Relations Officer and later being established as an Army recruiter.  Always thinking ahead, Augustus believes that gaining as much experience in the communications field to maximize his potential not only as a communications major, but as a building block to help him gain experience for his future career goals.  Failure is the greatest fears of Augustus, which is why being open minded and having an eager desire to learn motivates him to be the best he can be.  However, as a student, the only way Augustus can attain his goals and dreams is to be mature, diligent and professional in all his general and communication class.  Lastly, Augustus has developed a work ethic that can help him to be successful in the classroom as well as in the work field and when it’s all said and done, he’ll be right where he wants to be.

Faith. Passion. Purpose. Outreach. Set in motion, these four elements reveal the visionary who is Gabrielle Frongillo. Though a wife and mother of two, she is active in her community. Finding time to volunteer with her local church, run a business with husband, John, and manage a faith-based non-profit clothing store named Treasures is no cup of tea. However, service is never ending as there is still more to be accomplished in and around her community. Don’t chalk it all up to mere willpower. Gabrielle’s faith is the driving force behind all she does.

Now the newest member of the UVI Voice staff being added to her repertoire, she brings her optimism and support to the newsroom. Why settle for business as usual when she can shake things up through innovative concepts? Ultimately, what she learns from this course will be utilized to benefit the St. Croix community.
